Star Trek film

Star Trek movie poster

Yesterday my friend and I went to the cinema to watch the new Star Trek film. I was really exited about watching the prequel to the series. We were so eager to watch it, we ended up being there 30 minutes before the film actually started and were the only ones there. Bored, we began texting each other “Hello what are you doing? I’m waiting for the film to start.” and so on. I also sent that to another friend and said that we were bored and came there too early, and all she sent back was the short text “Nutheads!”. Gee, thanks. But to be honest I already knew it ;P

Nutheads!

The film was quite good and I liked Zachary Quinto as Spock. Something that’s hard to ignore is that J.J. Abrams did not fall in line with the rest of the Star Trek world. I’m not going to spoil anything but he actually made a prequel to a tv series, but still he didn’t make it fit into the Star Trek universe that was supposed to follow after this film. It would have been a really good Star Trek film if it wasn’t for that, which he could have avoided. I don’t think I’ll want to see a Star Trek movie made by him again because J.J. Abrams would just ruin it yet again. I’m hoping for a real Star Trek fan next time who knows the storyline of Star Trek and “yes and noes” about what can be altered and not.

J.J. Abrams would just ruin it again.

The score for this film is really hard to set because in one hand he destroyed the storyline of the prequel I anticipated, and on the other it’s a really really good film once I got the chance to think it through and realized what the movie really was. I had anticipated a prequel, only to find out it wasn’t. Throughout the movie it felt all wrong what happened but afterwards I thought it through and found out that it was still really well done. The whole film is in an alternate universe which happens to be before the series. Important to remember – at all times – is that it is set in an alternate universe. With that in the back of your head it all makes completely sense and is an awesome movie! remember in that in the end, Romulus is still destroyed in the universe we are used to, not in the parallel universe. In the real universe, Vulcan does not suffer from Nero’s wrath which makes it still fit into the real Star Trek universe in the end.

My rating is 4.5/5.
It is in truth an excellent film. Despite my first thought that I wrote earlier, that J.J. Abrams destroyed the time line, I realized later that night that it was actually quite good.
